Your LinkedIn profile is the perfect place to make a great first impression. Why? More than an online resume, your profile page is a billboard advertising who you are and — more importantly — how you can help.

  • Build credibility in your field.
  • Differentiate yourself from other sellers.
  • Build a rapport with your audience.
  • Gain important networking opportunities.

Use an appropriate image.
Selfies and cropped candid photos don’t cut it. Do yourself justice: Hire a professional photographer.

Create a professional tagline. 
Something catchy can make you look good from the get-go. But be descriptive and use industry keywords as needed.

Summarise your experience.
Don’t be too brief here. Your keyword-rich work history should run the gamut and contain links to work you’ve done.

Give and accept recommendations.
Testimonials work. Period. Provide shout-outs for others and they’ll likely return the gesture.

Share thought-leadership content.
Find things that are valuable to your audience. Better yet, write a blog about them.

Understand your audience.
Who do you want to talk to and how will you help them? If you can’t speak to their pain points, they’ll bounce right off your page.

Keep your contact information current.
Do not “set it and forget it.” Make sure everything’s up to date, including your industry, email and personal website.

Polish your current and previous positions.
It’s important to describe your responsibilities and projects, but it’s even better to showcase any numbers you drove.

Join relevant groups.
The benefit here is two-fold: it’s great for networking within your field and shows clients that you are active in your industry.
